2010

Its the last day of the year - 2010 was pretty fun - my New Years Resolution was to take risks and shake things up.

Mission accomplished.

Here are some of the things I did in 2010

Made amazing new friends
Partied
Quit my job with no regrets
Found new things that make me happy

child's play

This beer is so cute. Dona taught me about it on my birthday dinner. Its pretty good too.

"National Bohemian, colloquially called Natty Boh, is an American beer originally brewed in Baltimore, Maryland, but now brewed by Miller Brewing in North Carolina and distributed by Pabst. First brewed in 1885 by the National Brewing Company (whose other brands were National Premium and Colt 45), this Bohemian-style beer's slogan has long been "From the Land of Pleasant Living" — a reference to the Chesapeake Bay."

3³ = 3 × 3 × 3

Heres hoping that 27 is a great year. After all, 3 is my lucky number.

Things I'd like to do today...

drink coffee
get my hair cut
go to a thrift store
see my nephew
eat cake
draw some pictures
read in bed

ointment

Ho Nohs! Remember these things? I don't recall how or when I received one but I had the Sweet Secret that came in the crib and I LOVED IT. Why? Beats the hell out of me. They did nothing but flip in and out of themselves. Someone I knew had the one pictured on the bottom - the baby. Sisters, jog my memory - who had this thing?

I came across this random flicker stream - the person's house must be creepy - "all eyes on you" kind of thing. Its a fun trip down memory lane. Check it out.

Dutch Millionaire - huh?

Funded by a random Dutch Millionaire and fueled by a revolving door of musicians, British band Supertramp was formed in 1969 - so weird.

kill the ladykiller

A friend once asked what I liked about comic books - especially because they usually portrayed women as an unattainable ideal. It really got me thinking.

I guess it was the first exposure to the role models I wished to relate to. Female comic characters had so much attitude - they only ever did things on their terms - strong or stronger than boys and men so they could walk out at night without fear. Villainesses and Heroines alike.

I think Anna Cattish portrays the kinds of characters I like best. Check out the blog she contributes to - tons of excellent content. HonkFU

Oooh its Christmas Eve. Enjoy the weird and twisted mind of Brad Neely.

For some reason I imagine he does a lot of mescaline.

I really like this blog post from Apartment Therapy - some handy knowledge.

How To Remove a Stripped Screw Without an Extractor

Placing a wide rubber band inbetween the stripped screw and the screw driver can sometimes help give enough grip to remove a slightly stripped screw head.

"Gently tapping a stripped screw a few times with a hammer (carefully) may create enough depth/surface tension for you to remove a stripped screw. We recommend this as a last resort."

done right.

I love Lykke Li but I'm not a huge fan of her prerelease "Get Some". Despite the lyrics - Beck does an excellent job remixing it. Mike D's isn't too bad either. The song itself is just a little too nerdy - like a 14 year old girl who says she wants to get preggers. Not too wise.

results are in.

As mentioned before, I cleaned up my shoes and found that when lined up they fill an entire hallway. The following are shoes I've decided to try and sell on Ebay for relatively cheap.

Check out my store: shanimalschool on Ebay

I have a couple more - a dozen total. I really hope I can sell them to happy feet.

disturbed soles

Somehow I've come to a point in my life where I own a crazy amount of shoes but don't actually own anything practical that isn't ground to a stump.

How is it that I need new shoes when I own so freakin many? This weekend I'm on a mission to clean this situation up.

words from the past

So I used to run a different blog back in college and sometimes I'll go back to see what I found interesting back in the day. I completely forgot about this post.

"It's like if I can't document what happens, it didn't really happen... Happening. not happening" - Patrick Power

He died 2 years later. Its haunting.

minimum wage and fabulous!

Craigslist Job Postings:

Knights & Squires - LIVE Show (Medieval Times)
"...This is a great opportunity for those looking for an exciting job working in one of the best horse shows in the United States. Training provided for the 'right fit' - No Experience Required. Applicants should be physically fit and able to pass Phisical Abilitis Test... Apply in person at our gift shop..."

Female video host needed to host car review videos (McLean)
"Roadfly.com is looking for a video host. If you are of Asian descent I highly encourage you to send in your resume. The job is to review cars and report on them..."

The second one is a place I used to work for as a camera assistant. During the interview I was asked if I would ever consider wearing a bikini on camera and if I could drive a stick shift - my answer was no and no. Despite my answers and my apparent disgust I was given the job and asked to sign a Sexual Harassment Waiver. I thought the interview was so ridiculous I was curious to see what it was like working at such a company. Four months in and a couple days after my boss re-enacted a man jerking off into a cupcake for me - I quit. It was a strange strange job.

[excerpt]

Speaking of which, is there any shameful food that you give in to once in a while?

I like the macaroni and cheese at Popeye's. I'll even eat the stuff at the Colonel, because I can slip in there late at night when no one's looking. I'll eat it in the street, huddled in a doorway, 'cause I don't want my wife to see. I don't want anyone to see.

...yet he'll take a picture like the one above. Its so disturbing.

Tom Oxley is a great portrait photographer which is pretty rare, but I want to see him photograph old people and not just famous rockstars.
